A little about April Quast

A resident of Glastonbury, CT and an art teacher at Glastonbury High School, April looks forward to the opportunity to share a little bit of her self with the community through her paintings. She loves to dance West Coast Swing and has been dancing since 1995. Her paintings give her a chance to renew her love of the dance even though motherhood does not allow as many opportunites to get out dancing.

Understanding the Abstract Connections

Check out my blog post:

What's it all about?

Abstractions of dancers explore the energy and movement of the dance experience. The interaction between these forms describe the exchange of energy and communication between dance partners. By transforming the recognizable human figure into abstract forms, the viewer can investigate the movements and interactions of the dance and not the people involved in the movement of the dance. As the colors in the figure and ground begin to interact with one another an energy begins to be created on the canvas that can be compared to the energy of the music and how it influences the movements of the dancer. My intentions in creating these abstractions of dance are to encourage my viewers to contemplate the energies of music and communication between dancers that influence movement and the results of the dance.
